Pool Leak detection

Swimming Pool Leak Detection

A leaking pool is more than just an inconvenience—it can lead to significant water loss, structural damage, and increased utility costs. Even a small leak can escalate over time, affecting the stability of your pool’s foundation and surrounding landscape. At Perfect Pools, we use state-of-the-art Pool Leak detection technology to accurately locate and repair leaks, ensuring your pool remains efficient and safe.

Common Signs of a Pool Leak:
  • Unexplained water loss – If your pool loses more than 2.5 cm (1 inch) of water per week, you may have a leak.
  • Wet spots around the pool area – Soggy ground near the pool could indicate an underground plumbing leak.
  • Cracks in the pool shell or deck – Visible cracks could be signs of structural damage and potential leaks.
  • Algae growth despite proper chemical balance – Excessive water loss can disrupt chemical balance, leading to algae buildup.
  • Increased water bills – A sudden spike in your water bill without increased usage can indicate a leak.

Help Us Help You: Leak Detection Background

To ensure we can locate your swimming pool leak as quickly and accurately as possible, we kindly ask that you provide us with some basic background information.

Please keep in mind that leak detection is a process of elimination. Our advanced Pressure Testing, Tracer Gas, and Acoustic Sound Testing methods are designed to guide us in the right direction, but your input can significantly improve accuracy and reduce unnecessary delays.

By answering a few simple questions upfront, you’ll help us eliminate potential variables, avoid false positives, and streamline the entire leak detection process.

Perfect Pools – Leak Detection Terms & Conditions

At Perfect Pools, we are committed to delivering professional, accurate, and non-intrusive swimming pool leak detection services using advanced tools and techniques. To ensure full transparency and alignment of expectations, please read the following terms and conditions applicable to our leak detection services.

1. Scope of Service

Our leak detection process consists of three core stages:

  • Pressure Test: Determines whether a leak exists in the pool’s plumbing or structure.
  • Tracer Gas Test: A safe tracer gas is introduced into the system to identify the leak, usually pinpointing it within ±2 square meters, depending on surface type and site conditions.
  • Acoustic Sound Test: A high-sensitivity sound device is used to isolate the leak within ±500mm, helping to minimize unnecessary excavation or property disruption.

2. Important Service Notes

  • Leak detection is a process of elimination. Finding and repairing one leak does not rule out the existence of additional leaks.
  • Further testing may be required after initial repairs to verify that the system is leak-free.
  • Our testing is designed to be non-invasive. However, in some cases, minimal excavation may be required for further investigation or repair access.
  • Site-specific conditions such as paving, flooring type, soil density, and background noise can affect testing accuracy.

3. Limitations

  • Leak detection results are based on conditions observed during the visit. Multiple or hidden leaks may only become evident over time.
  • Detection area estimates (±2m² for gas testing, ±500mm for sound testing) are approximations and may vary depending on environmental variables.
  • Unless otherwise quoted and agreed upon, our service does not include repairs. Detection and repair are billed as separate services.

4. Water Loss Awareness

  • A leak as small as 3mm can waste up to 12,000 litres per day.
  • A 2.5cm daily water drop in a 6m x 3m pool equates to roughly 450 litres per day, or over 13,000 litres per month.
  • Plumbing leaks can result in high water bills, environmental waste, and potential long-term structural damage if left untreated.

5. Client Responsibility

  • Please ensure we have clear access to the pool area and all relevant equipment.
  • If your pool has an automatic or manual fill system, please turn it off at least 24 hours before our visit to help us monitor natural water loss accurately.
  • Any obstructions such as paving, decking, or landscaping may affect the effectiveness of testing.

6. Liability

  • Perfect Pools is not liable for:
    • Secondary or undetected leaks
    • Pre-existing water damage
    • Damages caused by failure to act on reported issues or recommended repairs
  • A detailed report of findings and recommendations will be provided after our assessment.

7. Warranty

  • Our leak detection service is diagnostic in nature. We cannot guarantee that the discovery or repair of one leak will not reveal others.
  • Where applicable, warranties for repairs will be clearly stated in your invoice or service documentation.
